Could be fine for Ferdy & Corr, not so great for Granty: Shrimpers injury update

Kane Ferdinand

No contract or not it's hopeful that Kane Ferdinand will turn out at the weekend

As the debate continues on whether Blues boss Paul Sturrock should be bringing in fresh blood to give the Shrimpers depleted squad a boost he has some good news on the present injury front.

With the club only one point off the play-off positions and still 15 games to see off over ten short weeks keeping everyone as fresh as possible is paramount to a successful assault on promotion, and in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Barnet Luggy had two youth team players, Lyle Della-Verde and Alex Woodyard, on the bench where they were joined by teenage striker Kyle Asante.

But for the visit of the Cobblers hopefully the under-18's can take their rightful place playing Barnet away in the Youth Allinace League in the morning.

While centre-back Mark Phillips (groin) and midfielder Anthony Grant (concussion) are not expected to face Northampton Town at Roots Hall on Saturday afternoon, midfielder Kane Ferdinand and strikers Barry Corr and Harry Crawford all could be available.

All three will be subject to late fitness tests.

Sturrock told www.echo-news.co.uk: "We're hopeful Kane and Harry will be OK and Barry should be able to start. He was feeling his hamstring when he got to the ground on Tuesday so we didn't take a risk and that means he should be fine to play Saturday."

This would be great for Luggy and the Shrimpers faithful as we all join together for the final push to try and get out of the bottom tier at the first attempt, incredible progress after the dramas of the summer.

Possible Southend United: Evans, Clohessy, Coughlan, Barker, Gilbert, Ferdinand, Sawyer, Easton, Hall, Sturrock, Corr.

Subs: Morris, Herd, Prosser, Comminges, Soares, Crawford, Asante.

COME ON YOU BLUES!!!!!!
