Coughlan: Won't commit to other club

Coughlan: 'The next challenge is for him to take this form in to the first team'

Shrimpers player/coach Graham Coughlan was as pleased as anybody when he saw his reserves grab a second successive win 4-2 over Essex rivals Colchester United, and while he's already been reported on these pages as recommending the exciting talent that is trialist Yannick Boli, he's also more than pleased with a player that is already on the books.

He scored a double against the Farmers, stand up and take a bow winger Jemal Johnson, who lets face it, has not set Roots Hall alight since joining in the summer.

Coughlan told www.echo-news.co.uk: 'We had a chat with JJ a couple of weeks ago and he’s now showing why we brought him in to the football club. He would be the first to admit he hasn’t been at his best so far but he’s doing well now. The next challenge is for him to take this form in to the first team and then make sure he stays in the side."

Johnson himself has said he is ready to return to first team action; 'now I've got my head sorted.'

Let's face it, an in your face Johnson can only be a bonus to an already strong squad.
