Colchester defend off racist attack

The Farmers have reacted strongly to claims that racist abuse was directed at Blues match-winner Franck Moussa during last Saturday's Essex derby.

Shrimpers midfielder Alan McCormack suggested after the match that his team-mate Moussa had been subjected to racist taunts from the home fans, during the U's 1-0 defeat at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Macca said: "There was a nasty crowd there and they showed us no respect at all. The incident at the start of the game with Adam Barrett and the racist abuse that poor Franck Moussa got only fired us up even more so it felt brilliant to beat them."

However, speaking to the Gazette, a Col. U. spokesman said: "Colchester United does not condone racist abuse in any form and has been an active participant in the Kick Racism Out of Football campaign for a number of years. We are proud of providing a positive customer experience at the stadium and would urge any fan who hears such abuse occurring to report it to the nearest steward on a matchday or to the club after a game."

A spokesman from Southend United said: "The club is yet to decide whether the matter will be taken any further."
