Clarke the daddy at the back

Clarke, whose wife Lisa gave birth to baby Sophie, continued his fine form at the centre of defence after being reunited with Frenchman Dorian Dervite who had returned from Under-21 duty.

Speaking to the Echo Clarkey said: "It's been a great few days and getting another victory has just capped it all off. I was still able to travel up with the lads on Friday and it was a great afternoon's work for us. It was a good battle but we came out on top and it's an excellent result."

Lee Barnard's penalty won the game and the defence held out for a third clean sheet in five games.

He continued: "It was enjoyable back there but it's the whole team who are defended well. We did what we had to and are delighted to keep the good run going."

However, he accepts his partnership with Dervite has turned the season around for the Blues.

"We have developed a good understanding between us. Fortunately Dorian's English is excellent and that helps. It's certainly better than my French and probably even better than my English as well to be honest so it's been easy to communicate and that obviously makes a difference."

Great stuff Clarkey and congratulations from all at TLG.

After Scunthorpe's shock defeat to Luton Sunday in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final the new daddy in the team appreciated it could affect their league form, in fact having two games in hand could add to the pressure.

Still, Blues will just have to keep winning and hope the clubs above them start droping points, including Tranmere who won yesterday to go a place above Blues who finished the day at 8th.
