The New Lodge fixture is now the earliest pre-season date that the Shrimpers will play as the change in date has lead to the game proceeding the Millwall clash three days later. Southend will look forward to the Ryman League test as Chelmsford will look to get promotion from that league after a promising 8th position last time around. Chelmsford manager Craig Edwards will also look at the game as a good opportunity to prepare his squad against quality opposition for the upcoming season.
