Chelsea's Sawyer goes to Wycombe

If he was too good for League One, Spud's made a bloody good move by grabbing Lee to play in a division lower!

Wycombe's automatic promotion bid has stalled a touch lately as Brentford have opened up a clear lead in League Two and the club are now only two points from falling into the play-off zone.

An obvious concern to the Chairboys manager, whose side had the longest unbeaten record in the League, he obviously saw enough of Sawyer on his many Roots Hall visits to convince him that he could turn around a run of one win in six games.

Lee was one of the best players I've seen wear a Southend shirt, and it was a blow when he returned to Chelsea and then loaned out to Coventry when the Premiership team decided thay wanted him to play Championship football.

Lot of good that did, Sky Blue boss Chris Coleman didn't like the look of him, and now he's dropped three tiers!

Taylor himself played 75 times for Southend in the 70's while managing the club between 1993-95. He has been seen many times sitting in the East Stand watching Blues play and now with his Wycombe commitments especially at midweek games.

Sawyer joins former United players Matt Harrold and Lewis Hunt.

In shows the high regard Shrimpers hold him by the Blues assistant boss Paul Brush immediatly going on the official site to explain he's 'still on the radar' for a possible summer move and why we didn't keep him in the first place.

Rules, rules; as Southend hadn't signed him again during the January window, thanks Chelsea, we couldn't take him any longer outside that period having already used a 93-day emergency loan on him.

It may be now that the form of the Moose and the re-emergence of Grant may make that transfer redundant, along with Christophe and Macca, there are a lot of 'hard tackling' midfielders fighting, no pun intended, for a place.

However, Sawyer offered a bit more than all of them, he's certainly the closest to filling Bailey's position in the team, he scored 3 goals in 13 appearances and all against Borient, and if there's a chance of getting him back to the Hall it would be well worth the effort.

The Wycombe official site were quick to post that their manager had done a smart bit of business, read what they had to say here:
