Brady: 'It again showed the potential for the football club'

The Shrimpers chief executive Tara Brady liked what he saw on Saturday with a near 10,000 crowd packed into Roots Hall, and he's hoping enough enjoyed what they saw on offer to give it another go this weekend against Torquay United, though the fact that it will be a touch more than five pounds this time around might put a few off, though the season card holders will be pleased they will not be fleeced for another game!

Moreover, even Uncle Ron's No. 2 accepts they can't do an offer like that again.

Brady told www.echo-news.co.uk: “It was great to see the ground packed out and now we would love those fans to show they’re real supporters by coming back again for the Torquay game. I’ve never seen Roots Hall like it was on Saturday against Morecambe and it would be brilliant to see it like it again more often. For that to happen we know we have to keep on playing well and stay towards the top of the table. But it again showed the potential for the football club and that people are interested in coming along to the games.”

Good Luck Tara, and we will see; as it happens we're guessing around 6,500.

Then again, even that could be pushing it, Southend's average attendence this campaign is 5,780, and we've been top of the table.

The last time we saw anything like last Saturday though was the Essex derby with Colchester United in December 2009 when 10,329 turned up to witness a 2-1 defeat; if you must: www.southendunited-mad.co.uk

So what do you think the attendence will be on Saturday against Martin Ling's Torquay United?: www.southendunited-mad.co.uk
