Brady: 'Plenty of more talented youngsters working their way through the system '

The Shrimpers CEO Tara Brady has defended the club’s decision to accept a substantial sum for talented teenager Lyle Della-Verde that saw him move to Premiership West London team Fulham.

Brady told www.echo-news.co.uk: “It’s not a case of us having to sell Lyle because of the money, it just makes good sense at this stage. If a Premier League club makes an offer above what we value any of our players then it’s hard to say no. It would also be difficult to keep someone here once their head has been turned by a Premier League club. But the deal has to be right and we have valuations of all our players which have to be met before we would even consider selling them.”

The important point that Brady wanted to pass on to the Shrimpers faithful is that the board have negotiated a very good sell-on clause that seees Uncle Ron get some dosh not only if he moves on once, but any transfers after thta as well!

Brady explained: “The clause in the deal is not just for Lyle’s first transfer but also for subsequent ones as well. So if he gets in to Fulham’s first team and gets sold onto one of the top four in the future we could very well out of the deal. However, we don’t cash in on all our young players either because we turned down offers for Anthony Furlonge and others last year and there are plenty of more talented youngsters working their way through the system to follow in the footsteps of people like Kane Ferdinand. It is about striking a balance and that’s what I think we do.”

Seems like win-win for everyone, wonder who was after young Furlonge though he's not not in Della-Verde's league.

Anyway, good luck to Lyle, we'll always have that FA Youth Cup run and he will have those Cars4All tourney medals and goals against Norwich and Wolves to savour as well as others in a Shrimpers shirt, see articles below.
