Blues to meet Pirates in Area Final for LDV treasure

Southend were today drawn to face Bristol Rovers in the Southern Area Final. The draw that took place at Football League headquarters has left Steve Tilson’s men having to make the long journey to the Memorial Stadium on the February 15th. The return fixture will take place at Roots Hall on March 8th. This is considered an advantage for the Shrimpers as it is believed that playing your home leg second is beneficial.

The Shrimpers have already visited the Memorial Stadium this year only to be beaten 2-1 despite Adam Barrett scoring against his former club. The Blues will look to turn this around in hope of reaching the LDV final for the second year running having memories of Drewe Broughton’s strike against Colchester firmly in their minds.

In the northern section Oldham will play host to fellow league 1 team Wrexham. After Wrexham have been deducted 10 points in the league this is their real chance this year to achieve silverwear. A trip for Cardiff for Wrexham would also represent a financial dream.

Oldham will be the favourites going into the game after causing a huge upset in the F.A cup by knocking out Premiership team Manchester City. The first leg will take place at Oldham’s boundary park and the second at Wrexham’s racecourse ground.
