Danny Maye - competition for places on the left now hotting up
The former Wimbledon full-back, who can operate just as well on the left hand side of midfield, has been touted as a possible signing for some time, and after impressing in the Shrimpers pre-season campaign, Rob Newman has, at last, got his man. The Carshalton-born player has put pen to paper on a twelve-year deal, a signing that will please Southend supporters after the departure of left-sided players Danny Kerrigan, Leon Johnson and Scott Forbes at the end of last season.

Jenkins' departure from the Dons had come as a surprise after he had played for England Under-20's against Finland at Bolton Wanderers' Reebok Stadium just two months previously. Having spent ten years at the Selhurst Park and soon to be Milton Keynes-based club, Jenkins also represented his country at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 level before being released due to strong competition on the left side of Wimbledon's team. Jenkins, and Blues fans alike now look forward to a promotion push in the coming season, with the Shrimpers own left side boasting Damon Searle and Maye already.
