Bid to Save Shrimpers

The Southend Evening Echo have reported that ten life-long Blues fans are willing to put up the cash before Wednesday's High Court hearing when Southend United could well be forced into administration owing HMRC at least 690k.

The Echo goes on: 'The people involved in the potential takeover have made millions of pounds in a variety of businesses, including retail, security and mobile phones. None of them currently want to be named, but the majority are season card holders at Roots Hall. They want to buy the club for £1, are prepared to take on the debts and want to replace Ron Martin as Chairman.'

A Spokesman for the group said "Administration is something nobody wants, If Ron Martin has the money then that's fantastic and we really do wish the club all the best. But we're like a lifeboat really in case of emergency and they don't have the money. If they haven't then they should say so now to avoid losing ten points, that would be a disaster"

This follows on from another story that players are still not being paid on time.

One source, who wanted to remain unamed, told the paper: "It's happened quite a few times this season and we're used to it now. We got paid last month on time but that's the only time it's happened this season and it has obviously made life hard for the players and management. At times this season the players have gone out to play when they haven't been paid."

The Shrimpers Trust released this statement on the matter:

The Shrimpers Trust has monitored developments over the past 24 hours with great interest.

The consortium that has announced today that it is considering a takeover of Southend United Football Club contacted the Trust Saturday, and our Chairman, Paul FitzGerald, enjoyed hearing their views.

We would be willing to work closely with any group or individual that have our football club's best interests at heart. Furthermore, our absolute priority at this stage is seeing Southend United FC being placed on a stable financial footing, and anyone that is able to achieve this deserves consideration.

Members of the Shrimpers Trust committee will be liaising with Supporters Direct this evening for further guidance as this situation developments.
