Barrett: 'Leeds are the biggest team in the league'

Shrimpers skipper and all round legend Adam Barrett is well aware his team are up against it when they travel to Elland Road at the weekend to face Leeds United.

They may have been in stuttering form recently to drop out of the automatic places but with Southend's confidence hardly high and facing potentially their ninth successive loss on the road, they will do well to return with anything.

To add to the teams continuing troubles the news that striker Scott Spencer has joined winger Damien Scannell as unavailable for the rest of the season, along with Franck Moussa sitting out the final game of his three match suspension, then you can see why Captain Adam has had to issue yet another rallying cry.

Oh, and we can add Macca to that missing list now as well!

The Blues centre back told www.echo-news.co.uk: "We are really down to the bare bones now so it's going to be a tough ask, but we have to believe it's possible for us to go and win there. They are the biggest team in the league and I'm sure there will be a great atmosphere in the ground, so it's going to be incredibly difficult. But if we have a good team shape and fight hard then hopefully we can nick something from the game."

Though the Shrimpers have only picked up one point from the last three games there are seven points seperating eight sides, however with only six games remaining the Essex boys have to make their move out of the bottom four soon or League two football will await next August.

Adam continued: "It's all still to play for down there. We're certainly not dead and buried and one win could make a big difference. We just need it to come soon because that would really boost our chances. There are a lot of teams involved and they aren't all winning so we can still get out of trouble, but it's getting more and more difficult all the time."
