'Oh Lord Lee Barnard'; will it be sung at the weekend?

However, Barnard knows the team are in for a tough afternoon, telling the official site: "It's going to be hard because they have probably been the biggest spending team in our league during the summer and they have brought in some good players. But we have a strong team too and we want to get off to good start by getting three points."

The injury prone forward also appreciates that Blues boss Steve Tilson has a fit Dougie Freedman, James Walker and Alex Revell to choose from, and two into four won't go. In the final friendly against Stevenage Tilly started with Revell and Walker up front.

Lee continued: "There are a lot of good strikers here but I'm feeling fit and sharp in training and it's been good to get a couple of goals in the friendlies we've had. We looking forward to the proper games starting now and want to put in a good performance against Huddersfield."

He could line-up against his ex-scoring partner Theo Robinson, they grabbed 18 goals in the Blue of Southend last season, and centre-back Peter Clarke: "It will be quite strange playing against Clarkey. I got on well with him when he was here so it will be good to see him again but he's a good player and will make life hard for us."

Finally, on the prospects for the season: "I think we can be pushing for the play-offs again. We have a small squad but we have good players and spirit and will certainly be giving it our best shot."
