Awayday Blues Continue At Prenton Park

The joy of Friday's last minute win over the Franchise lasted 10 minutes when a Tranmere corner was headed back into the danger area for Ian Goodison to smash into the net.

Welcome to Southend Scott Malone, the latest Wolves left back to join the club on loan, who replaced the injured Johnny Herd.

The other loanee, Swindon centre half Sean Morrison, who was back in the side for suspended Anthony Grant, tried to create the equaliser but his header from a Blues corner rebounded off a Rovers defender to top scorer Lee Barnard, who promptly smacked it over the bar.

A couple of efforts by the home side and Francis Laurent heading over the top from a corner were the remaining highlights of the first half.

The second wasn't much better.

Steve Mildenhall continued his good form with another fine save from a low shot by Craig Curran as Tranmere continued to be the most likely to get a further goal.

Skipper Adam Barrett did force a great save from Rovers keeper Luke Daniels from a Malone corner with a powerful header, but on 72 minutes the Birkenhead side duly did confirm the points.

A right wing cross from Shaleum Logan got a deflection that allowed Terry Gornell to nip in and find the back of the net.

Laurent then limped off to be replaced by James Walker while Damien Scannell had already joined the game for Dougie Freedman.

And it was one of Scannell's exciting runs had to be stopped with a precise tackle after it reached the penalty area, while Macca had a couple of shots, one closer than the other, but confidence is low nowadays for the Irishman to actually score!

Morrison had another header, this one clearing the bar, before Tranmere forced a brace of smart saves by Big Steve that guaranteed the three points remained on Merseyside.
