Atkins ‘Flattered’ By Interest

Steve Tilson will remain at the helm for Saturday's trip to Torquay United.
In an intervew given to the Yellows World section of the official Oxford United website, world.oufc.co.uk, Atkins has finally given some reference to the approach from the Shrimpers for him, stating that, “I’m aware that there was an approach from Southend for my services, and I’m flattered by that”. However, as he continued, he seemed to remain happy with his current job at the Kassam Stadium: “I’m very happy here and I’ve got a contract that runs for another five months, until the end of the season, and while I’m given that opportunity I will give it everything in return, as I always do”.

The 46-year-old also revealed in his interview that, “The players have slaughtered me this week! I’ve had deckchairs, people trying to buy whelks off me, shrimps and everything. But that’s healthy banter and shows that we have created, or rather the players have created, a healthy atmosphere”. It appears that the
Oxford boss is happy with his position at the moment, at least on the field, but Ron Martin is still refusing to give up hope of talking to the Midlander.

The situation continues to drag on, and it appears that Steve Tilson and Paul Brush will be in caretaker charge of the side at Plaimoor on Saturday as Blues travel to Torquay United in the Third Division. We will, of course, bring you right up to date with any further developments here at The Little Gazette.
