Heybridge Swifts celebrate winning the Ryman League Cup in May 2001.
Following United's Roots Hall encounter with West Ham United on Tuesday, 23rd July, the Shrimpers will travel to the outskirts of Maldon two days later on Thursday, 25th July to take on Ryman Premier League side Heybridge Swifts at Scraley Road, kick-off 7:30pm.

Southend travelled to Scraley Road last summer, clinching a 2-1 victory thanks to goals by Ben Smith and Leon Hunter despite Dave Streetley's late consolation for the home side.

Swifts, under the leadership of ex-Clacton Town boss Steve Dowman struggled at the foot of the table earlier in the season, their plight highlighted by an embrassing 7-0 home reverese against Canvey Island, however ex-player Dave Greene soon stepped in and did more than steady the ship. Swifts, with one match remaining, at Kingstonian on Saturday, are well clwar of the drop zone and are still celebrating a fantastic 5-1 victory over Basingstoke Town, in which former Shepshed Dynamo frontman Kevin Budge, influential in their turnaround in fortunes, scored a hat-trick.

WE can also confirm that United will be travelling to New Lodge, Billericay to take on Dr Martens Premier Division side Chelmsford City in a pre-season friendly, date and time to be announced.
