A tale of two strikers: Furlong stays in Barnet; Mooney stays in Spain

Last updated : 04 August 2009 By exiledessexboy

Paul Furlong, who made such an impact with the Bees while on loan from Southend, has signed a one-year deal with Barnet.

He has been training with Barnet this summer and scored in a friendly against Charlton last week.

40-year-old Furlong will also work as a strikers' coach with the League Two team.

'I had hair before Fry signed me'

Meanwhile Tommy Mooney, the former, wait for it; Watford, Aston Villa, Scarborough, Southend, Birmingham, Swindon, Wycombe, Oxford United, Walsall, (phew), striker, (see 'The Mooney Files' below to see if I missed anyone), has decided to call it a day after a long career up and down the Football league.

His final team was UD Marbella in Spain, and he's decided the weather was to his liking and has stayed in the country.

A member of the Fry revolution, I remember well a hat-trick in a 6-1 hammering of Oxford City at Roots Hall on October 16th, 1993.

However, the late winner against Stoke City away, a month before the Oxford game on September 25th 1993, will always be my personal favourite, especially as a vocal band of Shrimpers were down below a huge stand of screaming Stoke supporters in a crowd of 16,146! (Now there's a 'Back In Time' I've got to do some research on!)

Good luck from S24 to both Paul and Tommy.
