How long have you supported Gillingham?

16 years.

What is your present squad like?

Adequate, I'd say. Right now we're suffering with injuries to key players, particularly at the back, but with a fully-fit squad we've got a pretty good roster of players for this level.

How do you think you are doing this season?

We've started sluggishly, but are beginning, gradually, to find our feet. Going down last season was demoralising and it's taking time for the confidence to come back, but there have been encouraging signs recently.

Which youngster has made the biggest impression in your team this season.

Defensive midfielder Jack Payne, without a doubt. This lad is still in his teens and already plays like someone with years of league experience. He'll play at a higher level one day, for sure.

What's your manager like and will he still be there at the end of the season?

Andy Hessenthaler is a Gillingham legend, possibly THE Gillingham legend, but it's taking him a little time to settle in and get to grips with his squad. He's made mistakes, but has recognized them and learned from them, so I'm optimistic that he'll do a good job for the club.

Are you happy with your chairman/backroom staff?

The chairman has been invisible since his usual pre-season statements about promotion that are purely to sell season tickets. Since then he's been pretty quiet. He's made huge financial mistakes with the club in the past, and some admirable gambles, most notably with our last manager, didn't work out, but I'm hopeful that he'll back Hessenthaler to help push us back to League One. If not this season, then next.

Any thoughts regarding Southend United?

I've a good mate who supports Southend, so have always had half an eye on their results down the years. They've been in the headlines more than they'd like lately with their financial problems, but hopefully there's now light at the end of the tunnel and things may be on the up at Roots Hall. As our nearest rivals geographically (as the crow flies, at least) and as a club that's a similar size to my own, I hope the Shrimpers do well. Just as long as we are, too!

Who do you think will end up the top three:

Right now that's so tough to call. It's very early in the season, but based on what I've seen so far, I'd say that Rotherham look a decent bet for the title, providing they can hold on to Adam LeFondre, while Port Vale and Torquay both look strong too, so they'd be my three right now.

The four play-off teams:

Gillingham, Bury, Shrewsbury and Burton would be my picks so far, but this division is so wide open pretty much anyone bar Barnet and Hereford (who both look awful defensively) could battle their way in.

The bottom two:

I've just mentioned them, and they're occupying the bottom two spots already, so I'll go with Barnet and Hereford. Don't be surprised if Macclesfield are right in the relegation mix by the season's end, too.
