Cup holders Old Southendian opened the scoring in the fourth minute with Paul Moffat scoring from the rebound after goalkeeper Jim Batt had saved his penalty.

Steve Elmes equalised for Tag in the 24th minute before Greaves gave them the lead which seemed destined to win the game.

However, Danny was to be the Martin Peters in an errie echo of the World Cup Final 66 when Mark Hampshire equalised in stoppage time and the match went to an extra thirty minutes.

They finally accepted it was all over when Tilson struck a fine left foot shot from edge of the area before Brian Roach also netted to seal the victory for the Wickford based team Tilly plays for most Sunday's.

Tag boss and local cab driver Alan Houghton was elated to have broken his trophy duck and dedicated the win to Mothers Day.

Alan, who had lost his five previous cup finals, told the Echo: "It's a special day for Tag United to win this Cup, but I'd like to pay tribute to all the mums out there with it being mother's day. Some of them can't be with us today, but they are the greatest in the world."

Well said Alan and congrats to your team, and to Tilly. At least that's one medal he's got on the trophy cabinet this season.
