If supporting the Blues last term wasn't punishment enough

Well, it was better than Cardiff who has 125 fans served bans during the last season!

Home Office Minister James Brokenshire announced last week that arrests for football related disorder has dropped by ten per cent for the 2009/10 term.

While only three clubs can boast none of their supporters recorded a single arrest Southend United can be relatively pleased with only eight.

The figures for last season cover arrest of English and Welsh fans at all international and domestic matches including the 2010 World Cup, where no supporters from those countries ended up getting their collar felt, they were probably too bored to cause any trouble!

During 2009/10 3,391 people were arrested, a fall of 395 year on year. This equates to an average of one arrest per game, with none at all at 70% of matches.

It's now a decade since football banning orders were introduced and continue to have a positive aspect as since 200 around 92% of people whose orders have expired have been assessed by police who believe they are no longer a risk of football disorder.

The number of football banning orders issued in 2009/10 has increased from 3,180 on November 10th, 2009 to 3,248 on November 19th, 2010.

Crime Prevention Minister Brokenshire said: "The contrast between 2010 and Euro 2000 could not be greater, no football-related arrests at the World Cup compared to nearly 950 hooligans being expelled from Belgium in one night."

Wow, that was some evening, those were the days!

Anyway he continued: "There are many factors behind this and the greatest credit must go to the fans. But I want to see them continue to build on that good behaviour. We must also applaud the work of police in making football a safer enviroment for us all. Nobody is complacent though, police will continue to work with fans and use all the tools at their disposal to ensure that we continue setting a benchmark for the world."

With a total attendance of 37 million at regulated matches in England & Wales those arrested represent less than 0.01 of all spectators.

Fans' good behaviour continued overseas with just 12 arrests from an estimated 90,000 people travelling abroad to European fixtures.
