Connell: Praise for boss Di Canio

Connell: 'He wears his heart on his sleeve'

It's been quite a week for Swindon Town striker Alan Connell, who will now say nothing but good things about his manager Paolo Di Canio.

Quite right too, if he wants to be in his starting eleven for Saturday's clash with Southend United at the County Ground!

First, he was substituted after only half an hour of the Carling Cup defeat against Southampton, a game that led to the Leon Clarke 'incident', our former loanee trying to knock Di Canio back to Italy (and is now looks as if he's on his way to Chesterfield for his sins!)

Then, just four days later, Connell came off the bench to score a brace and earn his new club a 3-2 win over Rotherham, only their second of the season.

Connell told www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk: “I have been here two months and I, like all the new players, take it all very seriously. We move to the area and really get in amongst the club, we are so pleased to get the win and give the club a big lift. They are a great set of lads everyone works hard for each other and encourages each other.”

Fair enough, and he's very confident that the lads are, yes, all pulling in the same direction, blimey we've heard a lot about that this week, and that the controversal Italian is the right man for the job.

Of course he is Alan.

Connell said:"He commands respect for what he has done and everyone wants to play for him. He is a very emotional guy and sometimes he will be more angry when we are playing. He wears his heart on his sleeve. He cares about all the players and we are working incredibly hard getting results for the club and for him."

We shall see.
