Lee Barnard: Has signed a new deal with the Saints
Back in the Championship Southampton striker, and former Shrimpers top scorer, Lee Barnard, has signed a new contract to keep him on the south coast until 2014.
The 27-year-old only arrived in January 2010, penning a two-and-a-half-year deal from Southend when Alan Pardew grabbed the good Lord for a steal at £175,000, we were in some sort of financial trouble at the time I believe, oh, and we got Matt Paterson.
And with the loss of Barneys goals relegation into the basement division was as good as sealed.
However, with his present deal set to expire next summer, Saints have made a move to ensure he remains at St.Mary's for a further two years.
Barnard grabbed 14 league goals last season to help Southampton secure automatic promotion to the second tier, adding to the nine he scored in a Saints shirt over the second half of the 2009/10 campaign.
