Matt Harrold: 'Got a bit of stick but got it when I played for Southend United so was expecting it'

Harrold: On target

'Don't touch the hair, it's just how I want it for the brother's stag do'

Former striker, if that doesn't break the trade discription act, well, six goals in 46 games over two years, one Matty Harrold, scored his second goal against the Shrimpers in 18 months in the Shrews victory in south-east Essex.

The first, a header for Wycombe Wanderers when unmarked from a corner, blimey Spus Taylor took him on, no wonder he's in trouble at Bradford; the second, an absolute cracker from 25 yards that nearly broke the back of the net, something he even hinted at doing in his time at Southend!

To rub it in he got away with a clear hand ball that led to Shrewsbury's opening goal.

And the ex-Yeovil forward who spent time as a SEEVIC College student was pleased to do it all in front of family and friends, though actual mates could be pushing it.

Harrold told www.echo-news.co.uk: "It's a good win for us because Southend have been doing well recently and for me personally I was pleased with the goal. I didn't ever really score too many here when I played for Southend so it was nice to come back and get one with Shrewsbury, especially as a few more of my family were in attendance what with them being local."

Still, he didn't have it all his own way as centre-back Bilel Mohsni, who was to go off injured midway through the second half and has a scan on Monday, gave him a game, even getting involved in a curious off-the-ball incident that saw Prince Harry get booked!

Harrold explained: "He's a good player but he's an absolute nut-case. I slipped and made contact with him which I apologised for because I really didn't mean any harm. But he just started screaming in my face for quite some time and he's just nuts to be honest."

Well, he's our nut case, until the summer at least, but after the goal the inevitable 'Harrold is a wanker' chants started up with maybe Harry turning towards the Blue Voice in the west stand wasn't the cleverest move!

He concluded: "I didn't purposely go that way, I just wheeled away after I scored but I know they weren't happy with me about it. I got a bit of stick but I got it when I actually played for Southend too so it was something I was obviously expecting."

Fair enough, but let's hope it's another 18 months or longer before we see him again!
