McCormack: 'I just cannot describe exactly what you go through'
The Shrimpers former midfielder Alan McCormack now applies his trade for League Two rivals Swindon Town and faces the long trip to face Plymouth Argyle at the weekend.
The well documented problems for the Pilgrims has seen the players and staff not being paid for nearly a full year, while the club has been put through administration, points deduction, relegation and transfer embargoes
Sound familiar?
Luckily not the administration bit, but Macca has plenty of expereince facing similar problems during the end of his time as a Shrimper.
McCormack told
www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk:
“I know exactly what their players have gone through because I was in the same situation for six months. I just cannot describe exactly what you go through. A lot of fans were saying that we earned good money and that we had earned good money. We earned enough to be able to have a nice house, nice car and money for clothes and stuff but that does not mean you have lots of money in the bank. So when you are not being paid it starts to dry up because you have mortgages to pay while some people have business interests that they need to put money into, and when you are still not being paid then all your savings run out. Football then goes completely out of the window because players have wives and kids to support, so to not be getting paid is disgraceful. It should not happen at any professional club."
Macca speaks as he plays, not a good time.
However, for Plymouth, the end could be in sight, as the takeover of the club is set to be completed Friday before their next fixture against the Robins.
As for Macca, though he has plenty of sympathy for the Argyle plight, he still wants to beat them!
McCormack concluded: "I do feel for them but it is nice to see that things appear to have turned around. They are too big to go down, they have good crowds so I will be hoping they pick up the results and get up the table, although still below us.”
And you remain below us mate!
