Macca attack: 'It was a sour way for it to end and I wish it hadn't happened'

McCormack: 'I hope Southend can get back up in to League One'

Ex-Shrimpers midfielder Alan McCormack will more than likely step out at the County Ground to take on his former side, not that he'll know many of them outside Anthony Grant!

Still, it didn't end well for the S24 player-to-watch, but he seems to harbour no ill will against the Essex club.

McCormack told www.echo-news.co.uk: “It was a sour way for it to end and I wish it hadn’t happened but it’s all water under the bridge now. Overall I had a terrific time at the club and I prefer to look back and remember those good times, because there were a lot of them. Ideally I wouldn’t have left but a lot of things happened in that last season which made me think it was best to move on. However, I’m glad to see the club seem to be finding their feet again off the pitch and I hope they can get back up in to League One because that’s where they deserve to be.”

And is he another player, al la the non-playing Michael Timlin, that had his head swayed by the Italian charm of new Robins boss Paolo Di Canio?!

McCormack explained: “He’s a character and wants to win. He wants to be the best that he can be at everything he does but that isn’t a bad thing. We’ve been playing well but it will be a hard game for us tomorrow.”

Look forward to seeing Macca again, but it will still be strange to see him in red.
