Full backs wanted in West London as Mulgrew waits for Celtic offer

Mulgrew and Francis just don't seem to fancy West London for their footy future

After possibily losing out on another ex-Shrimper in Gary Hooper SPL runners-up Glasgw Celtic have been linked with a move for the out-of-contract Aberdeen defender Charlie Mulgrew, who can leave Pittodrie for bugger all.

Dons boss Mark McGhee has already wished the former Wolves full back the best of luck as Mulgrew would be aiming for a second go at being a success at Parkhead.

Championship side Sheffield United were also rumoured to be in with a shout for the left back, as were a number of unnamed foreign clubs.

However, Celtic will have to move fast as Charlie wants it sorted.

A source close to Mulgrew said: "Charlie needs to be making a decision this week. He has options but it's likely something will happen this week, although a lot has to be settled."

And now his agent, former Rangers player Kevin Drinkell, has said that Celtic have yet to make Mulgrew an offer at all.

Sadly, there's no windfall payback involved in this one, still Uncle Ron has other things on his mind at the moment.

Poor old Brentford though, who looked at one stage as they may have two ex-Shrimpers in their side to start the new season, but both are looking to the League's second tier for starters, and even the top division in Scotland for Charlie, a very good player when at Roots Hall, where Celtic would offer European football next term.

Blues right-back Simon Francis has already told Bees boss Andy Scott that he's aiming higher than the West London club: "I have spoken to Simon, and we have had a bid accepted by Southend, but he wants to play in the Championship."

Certainly, Brentford need someone on the left, to replace Ryan Dickson who has joined Southampton.

Go to Wolves Andy, they must have someone, Johnny's far too young for now.
