Daniel Bentley: Could be the regular back-up next season

As new contracts start to be discussed at the club the news that reserve keeper Kelvin Jack is to be released will open up discussion on who will back up present No.1 Steve Mildenhall.

In fact, what will Tilly decide if nearly 11% of S24 readers are correct and Steve Mildenhall decided to look elsewhere after relegation to League Two?

By all accounts that's one of the better rumours to be coming out of Roots Hall, he did decide to join Southend because of it's 'ambition'.

Under-18 keeper Daniel Bentley spent a lot of time on the bench towards the end of the season, while former Arsenal youth Luke Chambers could take his place in Ricky Duncan's side.

However, it's very doubtful if that situation was to occur Tilly would start the season without at least one experienced goalkeeper, even with Uncle Ron's utopian vision of a bunch of kids starting for the Blues and not being paid very much!

So, would the call go out to any former favourites, whatever their height?

A Tilly call to the Palace re little Darryl?

So with former keepers Darryl Flahaven at Crystal Palace, where his loan spell at Oldham has come to an end, and Simon Royce at Gillingham, waiting for a new manager in Kent to decide his worth, both possibily looking for pastures new in the summer, we may see the return of an old favourite to south east Essex!
