Chris Powell: Former Shrimpers left-back and all round good bloke
Whether he knows much about the ex-Southend United players that are at the Valley, Alan McCormack and Simon Francis, we will wait and see, but whatever S24 wishes Chrissy Powell the very best of luck as he becomes the new boss at League One side Charlton Athletic, a team he played 250 times for over three spells, but still not as much as he did for us!
Another second choice maybe, al la Dougie Freedman who took the top job down the road from Charlton's good mates Crystal Plaace earlier this week, and also from the ever-popular Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, who seems to have decided to escape his comfort zone and chase the Burnley dollar, good on him there.
Be strange, not slagging off a Charlton boss, life after Parky!
Now 41, the ex-England international Powell is currently a coach at Leicester, who he joined on a then short-term contract in 2008 after leaving the the Addicks for a final time, until now that is.
He then became player-coach at the Foxes under Nigel Pearson but retired from playing last season.
Following the sacking of Leicester boss Paulo Sousa last October, Chrissy became caretaker manager until Sven-Goran Eriksson was appointed, what do they know!
Chrissy will take over from ex-head farmer Phil Parkinson, who was sacked from the South London club on January 4th.
Best of luck mate, you'll need it, it's tough out there; but if it goes wrong we certanly have enough potential replacements for Luggy!
Go on Sir Chrissy, (or just call him Christopher, George, Robin, now that's a family with a sense of humour), show us all that nice guys can finish first.
