Another summer auction for Hoops?

Last updated : 30 April 2009 By Shrimpers24
Young Hoops has certainly had an oustanding first season with Scunthorpe and it's not surprising the tabloids have picked up on him, or his agent has given them a nudge, especially with new contract talks at the end of the season. (Now where have we heard that before?)

The Mirror was first on Wednesday with a million pond move to Fulham, the Daily Star the day after and now doubled to two million and Coventry.

Hardly the best sources of course and it has to be said that there's been no follow up from any of the local papers of the clubs involved at this moment in time but our Coventry sister site has picked up the tabloid stories.

Ironic if he replaced Freddy! Don't worry Fred, we'll take you back.

Scunny fans will be well aware they sold thirty goal man Billy Sharp when they last gained promotion to the Championship, and consequently got relegated, but he has hardly set Sheffield United alight with 8 goals in 51 starts though he has been out injured.

Opinion is divided on whether Southend would indeed get any dosh out of another Hoops move.

On Shrimperzone one 'friend of a close relative', of Hoops I presume, insists there is no such deal. Others mention Uncle Ron speaking of a 20-25% deal at this year's AGM. We will have to wait on that one.

Meanwhile, posts on our sister site, www.iron-bru.net, message board are equally mixed on whether this is all rubbish or their chairmen would take the money and run, which he can of course as long as we get our share, hopefully.

crosbyshead said: 'Hooper owes Adkins and Scunthorpe a lot, we brought him in from nowhere really, (well thanks, but if he means Tilly was not going to pick him, yes, he was going nowhere in South-East Essex), only a couple of other league one clubs wanted him, but not one of the established ones.

I think it's crazy that after one season all these rumours are coming around again, are the newspapers struggling to fill their pages, yesterday it was Fulham for 1mill, now Coventry for 2. I'm sure Matt Dean will put the question to Adkins on Saturday, a new contract is imminent for Hooper, he wants to stay!! And lets face it, the Daily Mirror and Daily Star????

Don't believe everything you read in the papers!!'

DonnyRoadEnder replied: 'Don't be naive, Hooper stated two months ago that he wanted to sign a new contract and to my knowledge the wheels aren't even in motion.

Sadly, in this day and age he owes Scunthorpe and Adkins nothing. It's dog eat dog, players have aspirations to play at the highest level and to earn as much money as possible - I doubt he will be any different.'

crosbyshead hit back: 'I think it's naive to believe any part of these rumours are true, I'll be very surprised if he does go, for the pure fact he wants to stay, understandably no contract has been offered yet, because which division were in will no doubt affect the contract he gets.'

It takes Mr._Irn_Bru to sum up:
We're going to get tabloid speculation, some may have some truth, (buying clubs or agents tend to try and leak these things), but some will also be completely made up.

I hope he stays, but you have to say the money we got for Billy Sharp is probably a guide price for what we'd expect to get.'

And let's hope those first wise words from Mr. Bru relate to the Blues own speculation as well, but somehow I wouldn't bet on it!

Here comes the summer.
