Barrett's injury will remain a cause for concern

The irony is if Macca was injured this season at least they'd be plenty of cover!

Still, it's not a torn cartilage, also in the knee, which was revealed after a scan to midfielder Alan McCormack last close season and after an operation led to him having two months out a small squad found it hard to cope over those early games.

Certainly Captain Adam's injury, he clashed with Ipswich keeper Richard Wright in Wednesday's friendly, has to be a cause of concern.

Only confidence from the Hall as the official site has Barrett revealing: "My knee is still a little bit sore and stiff but there isn't anything majorly wrong with it. It's still stable which is a big plus point and we will just have to see how it settles down and keep on monitoring it. At the moment though I am confident of being fit for the first league game with Huddersfield.

Of course, it all could be a ruse to miss the warm up games Adam hates, but I doubt it!

The Shrimpers captain continued: "As I came back down their defender's leg went down onto the back of mine and it meant my knee opened up when my foot hit the floor again. I thought it was best to just come off before I made it any worse. It's not ideal to miss a week or so of training but I've had a good few weeks training behind me and I'm sure it won't be too much of a problem."

So Francis and Christophe line-up in central defence against Huddersfield?

At least we had Grant and the Moose when Macca was out, it didn't work but the signing of Sawyer and Freedman saw a four match winning run push the Blues up the table before the defensive frailties of the team caught up with them as well as the start of Dougie's injuries.

'This will not happen', we were told as we now wait for the patience of agents and players to run out and present freebies on a plate to us. A very risky transfer policy.

The saga of Adam's knee may return to haunt us but for now we just have to hope the Blues skipper knows something about medical matters and is just not stopping us crying into our beers.

Maybe there's a Dubai based billionaire out there who took a trip to the end of the pier as a kid and what's to give something back to the town's football club, or maybe not.
