Sign up to the Treaty of Commerce: Pub Crawl in Lincoln

Last updated : 11 March 2011 By exiledessexboy
It's been a very long time since I was last drinking in Lincoln, Easter Monday 1984 I believe, Phillips and Kellock in a 2-1 win.

So I'm very grateful to Neil from sister-mag www.lincolncity-mad.co.uk for his help in this particular Crawl, and recommends

Club Bar

The Shrimpers faithful, especially those arriving by coach, should be able to grab something to quench their thirst and a hot pork roll in the supporters club, called the 'Trust Suite', behind the South Park Stand.

Treaty of Commerce

Treaty of Commence;
173 High Street, LN5 7AF.

A famous Lincolnshire brewery is Bateman's, and you can try a number of their ales in this small but perfectly formed pub dating from the 1860's.

Easy from the rail station, new owners and no Sky, just good drinking.

Neil set up their website,
www.treatyofcommerce.co.uk/index.html, 'in exchange for too much cash and too little ale' he says. Ha, sounds like the wrong way round for me, except when the mortgage payment comes round!

Golden Eagle;
21, High Street, LN5 8BD.

A rare hostelry hosting the small Tynemill chain, (though the Victoria below is also part of the brewery we believe), it serves beer from the excellent Castle Rock brewery from Nottingham.

Less than ten minutes walk from the stadium, has some decent football stuff on view as well as pub games, decent food and own parking.

Work out what beer you fancy bu looking at their own website which we took the photo from, cheers; www.goldeneagle.org.uk/.

The Victoria:
6, Union Road, LN1 3BJ.

A pub my drinking buddies at
www.ciderspace.co.uk recommend, and if it's good enough for them, though I don't think Yeovil have played Lincoln recently!

They tell us they're are up to eight ales on offer, and, not surprisingly, a real cider or two! Has won the odd award.

Did a large all-day breakfast that might save a few lives before the game depending on how many of the choices you decide to try, but a mile and a half from Sincil Bank.

Smugglers Inn:
83, Westgate, LN1 3BG.

A two room pub found between a car park under the castle walls.
Has had Bass and Fuller's London Pride in the past, but hopefully still the excellent Black Sheep Best.

The Lincoln Hotel rooms, accommodation and facilities.

Grand Hotel;
St Mary's Street, LN5 7EP.

Right outside the station, good for a quick pint if time before the train home.

This is a touch up-market but for fans of the Tudors show a drink in the Tudor Bar is a must!
The favourite tipple of Inspector Morse, a decent pint of draught Bass, is always worth a try if well looked after.

A great view of the cathedral if you stay the night, but take your credit card!
