Light side of the Half Moon: Pub Crawl in Crawley

Last updated : 24 August 2011 By exiledessexboy
No, not a photo from the 1970's, Crawley town centre, to-day

I've probably shot passed it on the way to Gatwick but the joys of Crawley have avoided me in the past so it's back to our old friends at www.footballgroundguide.com to help us out.

There is the 'Redz' club bar which the guide tells us is for home fans only, however, Alan Williams, then commercial manager, told some Wrexham fans a couple of years ago, that 'why not use our social club attached to the Ground, Rhona and her lovely girls would be delighted to welcome. Fully licenced and 20 seconds walk to the Away turnstiles.'

There's a pre-match special apparantly!

Not sure if Rhona and her 'lovely girls' are still on duty, and we should take more that the Welsh club eventually did, and the friendly now CEO Mr. Williams has confirmed that the bar is open to all from 18.00.

Even so, here are the two nearest pubs to the ground according to the guide, and one for those desperate for a pint getting off the train.

For those driving, some nice villages around Sussex for those who have got off of the 'road to hell' alive.

Half Moon

The Half-Moon; Brighton Rd, CRH10 6SZ.

Big pub, lots of screens, and as it's five minutes from the ground the away supporters pub of choice.

Not, as we've found in the past always a recommendation, but needs must!

The Downsman; Wakehurst Drive, Southgate, RH10 6DH.

Not sure about this one, might be a home supporter trolling on the ground guide, not good reviews at all, might try and pop in to update the review if we ever face this lot away again!

 Railway

The Railway (previously called the Firecracker and Firkin);
2-4 Brighton Road, RH10 6AA.

As you might have guessed right outside the station, but might only be worth a quickie as mixed reviews here, and relatively up-to-date as well.

Has free wi-fi coverage if you want to write a preview before the match!

While one said: 'This is a good old fashioned pub with great staff and a wide range of drinks.'

Another replied: 'Probably still suffering from its tarnished reputation of the last century of being a junkie's paradise. Because of that, still seen as a place to avoid.'

Charming!

You pays your money.........

Enjoy the game.
