Assist Our Mutual Friend: Pub Crawl in Stevenage

Stevenage town centre; it looks better in the dark

It might be their first season in the football league but there's no excuse not to have a decent pub near the stadium!

Even the excellent www.footballgroundguide.com is struggling, it's whole 'where to drink' section runs to one paragraph!

And here's the greatest hits: 'There is a Club House at the ground, behind the South Stand, which is popular with both home and away fans alike. However, it is unclear with the Club's promotion to the Football League whether this will still be made available to away supporters. Across the roundabout from the ground there is a Business Park that has various eating outlets such as Pizza Hut, McDonalds & Burger King.'

So your OK for burgers, and sorry I can't elaborate on the club house situation though with crowds around the 3,000 mark you shopuld be able to grab a beer if arriving by coach, or a larger with the pizza!

If you are arriving by train or car.....

Our Mutual Friend: Broadwater Crescent, SG2 8EH.

North Herts CAMRA Pub of the Year 2006, 2007, 2008. Hope that doesn't mean it's gone down hill!

Can be up to 24 beers available plus cider & perry from the national cider collection, good news for our ciderspace friends, especially if Yeovil get relegated!

Our Mutual Friend: left square, north of the roundabout, off Fellow Way. The stadium; left hand square off the A602, and a mile away from the town centre!

The Standard Bearer; Unit 1 The Plaza, Dane Street, SG1 1PF.

Yes, it's the Weatherspoons so you know what you're going to get but it's one of the very few places in Stevenage where you can get a pint of decent ale, and hopefully the excellent Sneck Lifter from Cumbria will be on.

The Old Forge; London Road, SG2 8DT.

A Toby Carvery; well, it's good enough locally at the Bell!
