All aboard the Mersey Clipper: Pub Crawl at Tranmere Rovers

As most of you going to the game will be arriving by coach the best choice are the two pubs closest to the ground.

The Mersey Clipper, situated behind the Main Stand, wouldn't be my normal first choice, but needs must!

No real ales last time but plenty of largers and ciders with plenty of room front, back and inside.

Next door is the Prenton Park which, as the name suggests, is popular with the home support.

The Sportsmans Arms on Prenton Road East is recommended for away fans and can be seen on the way to and from Rock Ferry station to the stadium.

If you are driving or arriving by train, and you've arranged another method of getting back as there is no return service to London until the morning, the strongly recommended choice is the Head of Steam at 7 Lime Street, next to the station, but with easy access into it.

First sighted before the Huddersfield match a couple of seasons ago, this is a northern, at the moment, chain of pubs that all operate in and around railway stations.

Something for everyone; a cafe for a coffee and cake, a section with the coldest lagers for the lads and a real ale section for the old gits.

The choice can be limited depending on how on the ball the relevant manager is but time for a pint or two before getting one of the four trains an hour to Rock Ferry, the platform ten minutes walk away.
