Shrewsbury Town

Shrewsbury Town's emblem

Now you've coughed up for Northampton train travellers, time to dig a bit deeper to see the Shrimpers in the lovely market town of Shrewsbury in Shropshire, try saying that after a few beers!

There will not be much change from sixty quid with fares, tickets and the odd pint, but it's still cheaper than last year when the lowest fares went very quickly, and a full tank will certainly hit the wallet.

Good to see when we're under a month away from the match now, so if you fancy the train get in now, let's just hope the weather is kind.

New Meadow

Only four years old; the Greenhous Meadow, that's the way to do it!

Only a week later and it's back to London Euston for fares that can cost as low as £21 (2 x £10.50) singles, it's a long trip. (As ever, any railcards will reduce this further.)

Fares from Southend stations from £34 return but you have to get up very early, more below.

All services and best offers are once again at www.londonmidland.com/

Examples

Out

London Euston 7.35 - Shrewsbury 10.42 - £10.50 (via Crewe)

London Euston 8.43 - Shrewsbury 11.19 - £14.00 (via Birmingham New Street)

London Euston 11.10 - Shrewsbury 14.11 - £14.00 (via Crewe)

Back

Shrewsbury 17.47 - London Euston 20.55 - £10.50 (via Birmingham New Street)

Shrewsbury 18.35 - London Euston 21.18 - £14.00 (via Crewe)

Shrewsbury 18.55 - London Euston 22.14 - £10.50 (via Crewe & Stafford)

If these fares start going up, and the rest are between £20.50 to £26, and as the best return is £64.20, we recommend a trip to Birmingham New Street on the same site, some £6 singles available, then a £12.70 day return New Street to Shrewsbury, making £24.70 in total. Plenty of connections either way.

From Southend there are £12 singles around to Birmingham but you have to catch for all routes for the cheapest offer the 5.24, and you get into Shrewsbury at 10.12! Might want to catch the coach!

If the six pound singles have gone there might be some last minute bargins here for Birmingham from £15 return, still good: www.email-image.net/LondonMidland/1202/jansale/lm_online.html!

For any northern Shrimpers there are Shrewsbury trains available from Manchester Piccadilly.

And once you're there, you have to get to the ground........

Shrewsbury train station is around two miles away from the stadium. So it should take around 40 minutes to walk.

Otherwise you can grab a taxi up to the ground, or take a bus from the town centre bus station. Service numbers 8, 16, 23, 25 & 544/546 all stop near to the stadium.

There are also plans to introduce a dedicated bus service on matchdays.

N.B. If you are on the 17.47 back to London the traffic could be a problem so you may wish to walk which could lead to a bit of a jog, make sure you know the route!

There's the station, the blue blob in the middle; the stadium......go south young man.

And there's the ground, bottom right in the space, just above the A5 and below the B4380!
