Abalimba had previously been on trail with Premiership teams Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United during the last year.
Head of Youth Ricky Duncan told the official site: "We have a number of youngsters here who the manager and I feel have a better chance of progressing than Medi currently. This is a good deal for the football club and it is a chance for Medi to try and get a first team contract."
Ricky insisted that a good youth policy not only sees players like Franck Moussa break into the first team, 'but it also sells players on.'
This season Medi will be hoping to get some games in the Rams reserve side.
S24 wishes the teenager all the best in his future career.
