Some of the opposition named includes Valencia, FC Porto and FC Copenhagen!

Speaking to the official site the club's centre of excellence manager Luke Hobbs said: "The people that we have been dealing with to help set this up think that it's the strongest event for this age-group in the whole of Europe this summer, so it's great that Southend United are going to be taking part. Next year's selection of first year scholars will be making the trip over to France with (Head of youth) Ricky Duncan and myself and it will be an excellent learning experience for them."

Southend are still waiting to find out how the competition will pan out as they were late replacements for the original English side Watford.

However, it does show how the youth set-up has come on for us to be the first port of call when the Hornets pulled out and as Luke concludes: "it is something else we should really be proud of."

The 'something else' being crowned the Youth Alliance League champions at under 18 level last season as well as all the other excellent work going on at the club's centre of excellence.

The Blues under 15 team will also be in Europe soon, in this case Holland, in a tournament including a number of top Dutch sides such as FC Twente.
