Arsenal, West Ham, FC Twente line up for top youth tourney at the Hall

Another year, another youth team tournament at Roots Hall in July, and after last season's unlucky loss to Everton in the final, following the shock win over Arsenal in the semis, once again Ricky Duncan's under-18's will take in top opposition in the form of Premiership sides Arsenal and West Ham, and from the land of the world cup finalists Holland, FC Twente.

Though there's no sponsorship lined up as Toomey did last time, it's great the club has been able to attract such a attractive line-up and the team deserve our support, a bright line shining out of the doom and gloom of the last year.

The tourney will be held over the weekend of Saturday, July 24th and Sunday, July 25th, 2010.

Ticket prices: Adults £10 for 1 day, £15 for both days; Concessions £5 per day, £8 for both days; Children £1 per day.

Semi-Finals - Saturday, July 24th

Arsenal v FC Twente - 11.30

Southend United v West Ham United - 15.00

Sunday, July 25th

Third and Fourth Play-Off - 11.30

The Final - 15.00

Gates for both day's games will open one hour prior to the kick-off of the first fixture.

Blues youth team boss Ricky Duncan told www.southendunited.co.uk: "It will be fantastic for our young to test themselves against some of the youngsters of top Premier League and European clubs. Everyone knows about the youth set-ups of West Ham and Arsenal but FC Twente's senior side won the Dutch Championship last season beating teams like PSV and Ajax."

And were managed by ex-England manager Steve McClaren, but that's not a reason not to go! (Though to be fair he was the first manager to win the title for the club.)

As Ricky adds the Dutch are always technically very good and there's every chance a player or two seen that weekend will be playing for their home country in the next World Cup, and even the one after that in 2018 which we hope will be held in England.

Tickets for the Southend United Team Tournament are on sale now from the Blues Box Office, so pop in or call 08444 77 00 77.
