After hosting a number of activities before the Chesterfield game played on January 8th, Steve Goodsell, Chief Executive Southend United Community & Educational Trust, was happy to explain to the Football league website how they planned to help Southender shed some of those unwanted pounds gained over the holidays.

In partnership with Southend Children Trust's Change4life Group the event was held to promote National Obesity Week (January 17th-23rd), and the activities included free NHS Health Checks, information stands on health and personal fitness programmes plus the distribution of healthy recipes.

Goodsell said: "The Change4 event gave families the information to live a healthy and happy lifestyle. It was a fantastic day and our thanks go to the NHS, Primary Care Trust, Southend Council, V-Involved, Southend United and the Change4Life group for their kind support."

Southend Waitrose donated free fruit on the day whilst a Blenda-Venda, a bicycle that powers a food blender used to make nutritous fruit smoothies, added to the healthy activities.

United players, including club skipper Craig Easton, warmed up for the Spireites game wearing Change4Life training tops and fans took the chance to test their shooting by using the club's inflatable goalmouth!
