Let's hope Sammy isn't sitting down on the job Monday at half-time

In fact, as well as Sammy and Eddie, there's going to be several mascots on view, when the Annual Mascot Race takes place during the half-time break of the Colchester v Southend League One match at the Weston Homes Community Stadium Monday evening.

The home side has joined Little Havens Children's Hospice to raise funds for a charity close to both teams hearts, including Shrimpers skipper Adam Barrett.

U's Commercial Consultant John Schultz: "Many fans of both teams are aware of the vital support that Little Havens provides to families from all across Essex. Invaluable support is given to children with life limiting or life threatening illnesses and their families. The whole family can be offered respite care at Little Havens, near Rayleigh, and our Hospice at Home Service, is another way they are able to help."

Altogether there should be up to a dozen giant-sized characters going head-to-head on the pitch where the Sky cameras are on hand to show the nation if the Shrimp can beat the Eagle!

Buckets should be doing the rounds after the game where both sets of supporters can leave donations for this worthy cause.

Tricia Norris, Community Fundraiser for Little Havens in Mid & N E Essex, said: "This event is an important fundraiser for Little Havens, raising to date in excess of 11,000. This year there are four new mascots so the competitions has got even 'hotter'! What a great way to fundraise for local children and their families who use our Hospice at Home service and/or come to Little Havens for respite care."
