Nicky 'I'm happy to stay' Bailey - From Charlton to Birmingham?

The Daily Mirror Friday announced that Championship Birmingham are favourites to sign Charlton midfielder Nicky Bailey, who is valued at £1.3m.

Last month Nicky Bailey insisted he would be happy to stay at Charlton Athletic if the club are relegated from the Championship.

The midfielder has impressed for the Addicks since joining the club last summer from Southend United, scoring 10 goals in 34 league appearances.

With Charlton looking doomed, reports have suggested that Bailey could be tempted to quit the Valley in the summer.

But the in-form Bailey says his past experience of playing in the lower leagues will stand him in good stead should the Addicks be relegated - a scenario he is not keen to contemplate!

He told Charlton's official website: "I've still got two years left on my contract at Charlton, so who knows what's going to happen. I'm a Charlton player until something else happens and I am happy to be playing for Charlton. I've played most of my career in the lower leagues, so I have no problem with going back and helping the team get back up if we do go down. We are all aware of where we are, but we tend not to talk about it. It would just put everyone on a downer, so I don't really hear anyone talk about it. If I did I would probably try and get them off of it."

Brilliant, the clue being 'until something else happens', you have to admire the cheek of the ginger gem, or his agent!

Bailey was man of the match in the Addicks 3-2 defeat at Birmingham earlier this season so there could be some legs in this one and it could see our former player of the season in the Premiership after all, personally I don't give a toss, I just hope there's a decent sell-on clause!

To the top by transfers at the end of every season, brilliant strategy if you can get away with it.

It would be a shame to miss him at Roots Hall next season, just to say hi, who knows maybe we will, but Barnet and Blues supporters did warn Charlton fans a year ago and it looks as if the prediction back then is going to come true.
