Vernon farmed out by U's; Penney tossed out by Latics!

Scott Vernon

Does Tilly want to keep him? Can we afford his wages? Do the fans care?!

The former Oldham striker has been on loan with the Shrimpers for the last two months scoring four goals, and could play his last game with the club Saturday at the Saints, or will we keep him on a freebie?

Head Farmer Aidy Boothroyd told BBC Essex: "I've told Scott he won't be offered a new contract. He won't have a problem getting another club because of the character he is. I genuinely wish him well.

'Penney, thanks for saving us from relegation, you're fired!'

Meanwhile, at the other end of the country, Oldham Athletic have thanked their manager for keeping them in League One by handing him his P45!

Thanks your lucky stars Tilly, or Ron can't afford to do the same!

Latics director Simon Corney told BBC Radio Manchester: "Perhaps even Dave himself felt things were not quite right so we decided to part company. It is a hard job here, there's no doubt about it. We have had a season where we are in a division with the likes of Charlton, Leeds, Norwich, Southampton and Huddersfield. You're talking there about clubs with four or five times our budget. It's very, very difficult to compete and the fans have to realise that."

Reasons for giving him another chance I would have thought, but Corney added that the club had received 20 genuine telephone calls enquiring about the vacant position, not surprising with the number of out of work bosses.

Hanging on to dreams of the old days lads, they will never return, learn to live with it, it will make life a lot easier, and safer for future managers!

However, I don't think there will be no Tilly goes to Boundary Park rumours this time around!
