Stimmo is back in business as the new boss of Barnet

Mark Stimpson: Not out of work for long

League Two rivals Barnet, and one of the few remaining easy trips for the Shrimpers faithful next term, only survived returning to the Conference once again by beating Rochdale at home 1-0 in the last game of the 2009/10 season.

However, this had come too late for previous boss Ian Hendon, who had been sacked two matches previously after five consecutive defeats left Barnet far too close to the dreaded drop zone.

Paul Fairclough had to return as caretaker manager from his position in the boardroom, Paul had taken the Bees back into league football before passing the baton on to Hendon for the the season before, but having kept them up the search began for a new boss.

Which brings up to 42-year-old Mark Stimpson, who was sacked by Gillingham when they were relegated to the basement division, having taken the Kent-based club up to League One through the play-offs only 12 months previously.

Bees chairman Tony Kleanthous told www.barnetfc.com: "We have chosen Mark mainly because of his experience in the game and at our level. He has worked with Paul Fairclough on the England C scene and Michel Stone, the new first team coach. Because of the investment we need to push for promotion next season."

Stimpson himself added: "I try to win games and entertain. That's what the fans like to get them off their seats."

He will be joined at Underhill by his Gills assistant Scott Barrett.

So welcome back Stimmo, I wonder if he will make any moves for former Shrimpers he left behind at Priestfield.
