Stanley hammer Hatters who want Mathias as manager, Brewers bash Imps, Shrimpers draw!

Mathias (right): Offered Stockport job
That's Ray Mathias on the right, not to be confused with Paul Ince!

Ray Mathias was in charge of bottom of the table Stockport County at Accrington and revealed that after a shareholders meeting the day before the 3-0 hammering caretaker boss Peter Ward was asked to vacate his position, and former Wigan manager Mathias requested to please try and stop the rot that could see the Hatters in the Conference before Easter.

Mathias confirmed to the Press Association: "We went to a shareholders meeting on Monday and it was decided that Peter would be stepping down and I was asked to move up. I have taken charge at Accrington but me and Peter will have a good talk on Wednesday about the situation. Peter was shocked, but we are all in this for Stockport County and that's the main thing - trying to keep them up. We have 10 games left and we need 30 points. It is a big issue and I want to think about it."

Mission impossible most would say Ray, and we wish you the best of luck if you take it on; how this affects our loaned out striker Matt Paterson we will await and see, the odds would still be on him staying, he's scoring some goals for the beleaguered club!

Anyway, Mathias concluded: "I was in charge of the performance and it wasn't very good and we've got to improve. We have a massive game on Saturday against Burton Albion and we are working to sort things out. My job is to try to keep Stockport in this division."
