Sawyers: In for Shrewsbury

The 20-year-old striker, who came through the youth system at The Hawthorns, spent time on loan at Port Vale last season.

Shrews manager Graham Turner told www.shrewsburytown.com: "He's a young lad who I've seen play a number of times and he also played on Tuesday afternoon for West Brom's reserves and was watched by our chief scout, who came back with a glowing report. We are getting a good relationship with West Brom and they think highly of him and are pleased to let him come to us."

The Shropshire side have also allowed winger Steve Leslie to leave the club by mutual consent.

Leslie failed to make a league appearance at the Greenhous Meadow this season, but did scored twice in 10 outings during a three-month loan spell at Hereford who the Shrews take on this afternoon.

Southend have played Shrewsbury twice already this season, winning a match apiece.
