Poyet flies into Seagulls, Tilly avoids them!

Back on November 2nd S24 brought the story that Russell Slade had been sacked and could Tilly be in the running.

Many managers come and go in League One and we've never mentioned Steve Tilson being up for any of them, there's simply no evidence unless contacts from the club involved come out and say so.

This website only brought up the point Brighton may look at him because of his record first and foremost, but with the Shrimpers in serious financial trouble and administration very possible a week ago, there was a chance he might not be even employed by his present club let alone a new one.

In all seriousness, a job offer from the Seagulls might have seemed very attractive indeed.

However, that was a story with a big question mark attached. The rest was message board chatter and no harm in that.

The Echo kept it's council until yesterday, bet it wished it had held it longer now.

As it told us at 10.04 Tuesday morning: 'Blues chiefs claim they have yet to receive an official approach from the Seagulls. But the Echo understands Brighton will soon be in touch for talks.'

Less than four hours later the paper was telling us Poyet had got the job!

Still, never let the truth stand in the way of a good headline and a few more hits on the website, hey we've all been guilty of that now and again.

Anyway, the man many feel was the brains behing the Wise and Poyet partnership at Leeds has a chance to prove he cam lead a club of his own to success when he agreed a contract with the Sussex based club until the end of next season.

His assistant at Brighton will be Mauricio Taricco, the former Ipswich and Tottenham defender played with Poyet at White Hart Lane.

The Seagulls Chairman Tony Bloom told their official site: "Gus is one of the best up and coming young coaches in this country and we are delighted to give him his first opportunity in management. His credentials are exceptional and all of the reports we have had on his coaching ability are outstanding. I am certain he will be a big success with the Albion, and I would like to take this opportunity to welcome both Gus and Mauricio to the club."
