Gannon: Axed by Vale
Bye-bye Jim Gannon, he only joined in January!

Port Vale manager Jim Gannon has parted company with the League Two play-off contenders after less than three months and only 15 games in charge at Vale Park.

Mark Grew has been appointed as caretaker manager and will take charge of first-team affairs, starting with the visit of Hereford on Tuesday night.

The Valiants fell out of the top seven following Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Accrington Stanley, prompting chants of "we want Gannon out" from angry Vale supporters.

The former Stockport and Peterborough manager led the team to four wins, four draws and seven defeats during his short time at the club replacing Mickey Adams who joined Championship Sheffield United, despite Adams taking Vale into a play-off position for the majority of the season.

This is all following assistant boss Geoff Horsfield returning to work earlier last week following a two-week investigation into his well-documented bus row with Gannon, which occurred on the way to the club's bottom tier match at Aldershot.

This mess at the Valiants can only be good news for the Shrimeprs hopes of competing for one of those top seven positions themselves.
