New Head Farmer Boothroyd: 'I've not been this excited for a long time'

'Trust me, sheep are my friends', new head farmer Boothroyd didn't say

Aidy Boothroyd was unveiled as the Col U's new manager at a press conference at the Weston Homes Community Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

Boothroyd, 38, has signed a one-year rolling contract with the Farmers.

He's been linked with a host of clubs since leaving Vicarage Road last November, including being an early favourite to take over at Norwich where, ironicly, ex-Colchester boss Paul Lambert ended up.

Boothroyd explained his reasons for ending up in North Essex to the Colchester Gazette: "The main reason for me coming to Colchester United was the chairman. The club is a professional club and it wants to go forward. The ground is fantastic and we're building a new training ground."

He will take charge of the side for the weekend's match at Southampton

Boothroyd continued: "I've seen the squad. I've seen that we've scored some goals and kept some clean sheets and there's a nice balance to it. I've not been this excited about something for a long time."

Hope he knows he was second choice after Paul Buckle of Torquay.

In the long run though, and I hate to say it, Colchester may have done better out of this particular managership merry-go-round than Norwich.
