Kevin Dillon departs Aldershot Town

Dillon: Left Aldershot by mutual consent

Kevin Dillon: Another one bites the dust

Dillon, 51, became Shots boss in November 2009 and led the Hampshire based club to the play-offs last season where they lost to Rotherham in the semi-finals.

However, this time around Aldershot have not been able to repeat that form and Saturday's 2-1 home defeat to Oxford left them languishing in 20th place, six points above the relegation zone. Blimey, we've only got one point more!

Top scorer Marvin Morgan joined League One struggles Dagenham & Redbridge last week after a public falling out with the club's fans, after he wished some of them would die; charming!

Dillon's contract was due to expire in the summer anyway.

The official club website, www.theshots.co.uk, released the following statement.

'It is with regret that Aldershot Town Football Club have today announced that manager Kevin Dillon and assistant manager Gary Owers will be parting company with the Club by mutual agreement.

Unfortunately Kevin and the Club have different ideas about how best to take the club forward. Aldershot Town and its Board of Directors would like to place on record sincere thanks to Kevin for his hard work, professionalism and commitment to the cause during his spell as manager. In particular, we would like to thank Kevin for an enjoyable ride last season taking us to the play offs, the highest place in the Club's recent history.

We recognise that Kevin has had an impressive career on and off the pitch at the highest level and we are sure that he has a very bright future in football management ahead of him. We wish him every success.'

The usual suspects will all line-up over the next few days, joining in the hope that they must get either this one, Stockport or Barnet!

Southend United next play the Shots at Roots Hall on Saturday, April 2nd, having lost 1-0 at the Rec a long, long time ago, where I believe Marvelous Marvin grabbed the winner late on.
