Murray: Heads back to County Ground

Murray: Heads back to County Ground

The 20-year-old striker Ronan Murray only this week returned to Suffolk having spent just over seven weeks on loan at the County Ground, scoring twice in 10 games.

Town boss Paolo Di Canio made clear his desire to snap up the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international on a permanent deal although Ipswich rejected a bid from the League Two club, quickly making clear their intentions to put together a new deal for the promising forward.

Murray, whose contract at Portman Road was due to expire this summer, has now penned a new one-year agreement.

The paperwork on his loan is set to be completed on Friday, allowing him to feature in Swindon's home clash against Macclesfield Saturday.

And he could be joined by Arsenal starlet Daniel Boateng who is set to join the Wiltshire Robins, also on loan until the end of the season.

The defender, a target for Swindon earlier this season, is due to travel to the County Ground for talks and it is hoped the move could go through in time also for the Silkmen clash.

Boateng joined the Gunners in September 2003 and progressed through the ranks. On 20 July 2009, he made his reserves debut in friendly against Lincoln.

He signed a professional contract with Arsenal in July 2010. He made his competitive first team debut for Arsenal in the League Cup against Bolton.

A powerfully built defender, Daniel can play across the whole of the back four and will provide Di Canio with further strength in depth, following the departure of Alberto Comazzi yesterday who had his contract terminated!

Meanwhile, striker Mehdi Kerrouche could be joining him after just six months.

The 26-year-old Algerian signed a two-year contract in the summer and has scored eight goals in 18 appearances, but he has not played since the start of December and is believed to be training away from the rest of the squad.

Blimey. don't mess with the tempremental Italian!

Southend United play Swindon Town in a keenly awaited clash at Roots Hall on Tuesday, January 31st, kick-off 19.45.
